Social Work College Education and Government¡¯s Policy for Developing Teams of Social Work Professionals in China

Abstract
This paper aims at analysing the influence of Chinese government¡¯s policy for developing teams of social work professionals on social work college education. For the purpose, developmental process, current conditions and problems of social work college education, and main contents of government¡¯s policy for developing teams of social work professionals were reviewed, and future of social work college education was prospected. The results are as follows;First, social work college education in China was begun on 1920s, stopped after establishment of the New China, and recovered on 1989 since open policy. The reason of recovery was that the government wanted not only to resolve but also research the new social problems which not existed in planned economy. Second, the number of social work departments or programs of college was rapidly increased in short terms. However, they has serious problems, for example, low quality of professors, few students, bad environments of practicum, and poor job markets. Third, Chinese government announced the harmonious society to resolve the reverse effects of economic growth and social unrest, and chose social workers as assistants of socialism and the harmonious society. Fourth, a series of policies for developing teams of social work professionals positively influence on social work college education. Those are increasement of social workers and social work college, improvement of social work education, better treatment of social workers, and more graduates entering to social work fields. Fifth, the future of social work college education seems to be bright, because Chinese government and Communist Party are driving the policy for developing social workers and the improving effect of social work education is obvious.
